Send a submission for signature

Get a signature on what someone filled in: an application, a reservation agreement, an authorisation form. The submission is turned into a PDF and sent through SignNow like any other document.

Any submission can be sent, including one to a form that never asked for a signature. The signature goes onto the document's own signature spot.

Where to start

Send for signature is on every row of a form's submissions page and of the Submissions page. See submissions.

What gets sent

The submission's PDF, the same one you download from its View dialog:

  • for a form imported from a PDF, your original document with the answers written in;
  • for a form built in FormsUI, the generated document in the form's style.

See PDFs of a submission for how each is made. The PDF includes sensitive answers in full, since the signer is signing the complete document.

If the form is set to allow e-signature, the PDF carries a captioned signature line for each party you named in the builder. An imported document usually has signature blocks of its own, and those are used first.

Signers

The dialog opens with the person who submitted as the first signer, since on a one-party document they are usually the one who signs.

If the document names more than one party, such as a landlord line and a tenant line, the dialog opens with a row for each and says which parties it found. Fill in who each one is. Signing as decides which line each person signs on, so the tenant signs the tenant line whatever order the rows are in.

Add up to 10 signers. Verify each signer by SMS works as it does on Send a document.

Signers from this dialog are all invited at once. For one-at-a-time signing, download the PDF and use Send a document instead.

Preview is worth pressing on an imported form: it is the only way to see where the answers landed on your original before a credit is spent finding out.

After you send

The confirmation says how much credit is left. The submission's Signature column shows sent, and moves to completed or declined as the document does. The document also appears in your documents list, where you can see each signer and send reminders.
